This book is a collection of stories, one for each month of the school year, that illustrate how one kindergarten teacher engaged her students in critical thinking and mathematical problem solving using issues as they arose in her classroom. By creating a mathematically rich environment and a classroom climate supportive of interaction and discourse, the teacher helped students to explore, observe, estimate, predict, hypothesize, analyze, and apply mathematical concepts. Each story concludes with a reflection on the mathematical concepts illustrated in the story.
