In this richly illustrated picture book, an adopted child named Lucy wants to be excused from a school assignment regarding a family tree because she thinks that her family is unusual. Lucy's parents, however, are able to convince her to complete the assignment and Lucy subsequently realizes that there are many different types of "normal" families.
