The two plays in the book deal with the rites of passage as children go through adolescence to adulthood. In The Boy in the Treehouse, Simon climbs into his treehouse on the vision quest that his books say is necessary for him to reclaim his mother's culture. In the second play, Danielle's Native name is "Girl Who Loved Her Horses."
