Daniel's school assignment is to report a personal account from a residential school survivor. April introduces Daniel to her Kokum, Betsy, who is a residential school survivor. Betsy is abandoned when she is a young girl and is adopted by a loving family. When she is 8 years old, a priest takes her away from her family and places her in a residential school. Betsy endures the loss of her culture and suffers physical and sexual abuse.
