This publication provides research-based instructional literacy strategies useful for elementary and middle level educators. Each strategy indicates the instructional focus (oral language, phonemic awareness/phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, spelling and content areas), the grade levels, step-by-step instructions on how to use the instructional strategy and when to use the strategy. Scaffolding for English as an additional language learners is described and samples of students' works are presented.
