Alina comes from a long line of women who serve on the Isle of Weavers. When she is selected to be a weaver, she undertakes a long period of mental/spiritual training, however, Alina is impatient and wants to begin weaving right away. Alina is asked to take some spools of thread to the weaving room where she sees a tapestry. She discovers a broken red thread in the tapestry and Alina attempts to repair the thread using a strand of her hair. Immediately, thousands of other threads in the tapestry break. The tapestry reflects what is happening in the world and affects events. Alina must undo what she has done.--Ministry of Education website.
